Instead of mentoring Anakin through fear and instability, he reinforces the idea that emotion is weakness and attachment is dangerous.
And the tragic part?
He is not entirely wrong to distrust Anakin. But his refusal to connect with him only pushes Anakin further away from the Jedi and closer to Palpatine.
