George Lucas intentionally mirrored Luke Skywalker in the character of Mace Towani from Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure. Like Luke, Mace starts off as a brash, impulsive youth who learns humility and leadership through loss and adventure. Dressed in similar white attire and wielding a glowing crystal instead of a lightsaber, Mace reflects Lucas' ongoing fascination with the coming-of-age hero’s journey—even outside the core Skywalker saga.
Though Mace never became canon, the echoes of Luke in his story show how Lucas tested archetypes and tones beyond Jedi and Sith—even in the forests of Endor.
